The Consumer Product Safety Act

I ask everyone who reads this to please go review The Consumer Product Safety Act and they are requesting comments. The act will require testing of all products even handmade products whether imported or made in the U.S. There is no exception for products that are unlikely to be harmful such as plain fabric items or items where their components would already be under testing regulations and if listed can be easily verified.

Organization Recommendations

I fell off the FLYwagon this past week but I have climbed back on today. I am working on my sewing room this weekend and I have lots of spaces to put things but I cannot figure out how to categorize. Do you any of you have multiple tatting, stitching, etc. type hobbies? What are your preferred methods of organization for those materials?

I have material fabric, notions, and found items. For storage, I have drawers mostly and a few small containers, and shelves. I would really appreciate any insight you provide.

My Sink is Still Shiny

I have kept my sink Shiny for over a week now. My family is responding to it and my kitchen looks better all the time even though it is not completely decluttered and organized. I also cleared my bed last weekend and it has stayed mostly cleared all week too. The bed being cleared and my laundry hung in the closet made it necessary for me to clear a way to easily reach the closet every day to access my clothing and the closet is on the side of the room I do my sewing. That side of the room is not completely cleared enough to work in yet but it is better and I cleared my sewing table today.

I am making progress which is better than I have done all year. The tough part is that I still have not figured out how to organize my things without becoming obsessive about it. That is my next challenge but just getting my sewing area usable and my house out of CHAOS will be awesome!

My Sink is Shiny

I know, I know, you are saying, "What does your shiny sink have to do with crafting?", I am going to explain. I have a terrible time finishing projects. I hyperfocus on things that are new and as soon as I learn them I get distracted by something else. Sometimes I just get lost in the enormity of a project. I know I can break it down to smaller pieces but then I run into the lack of organization in my sewing room which is only an extension of the chaos in the rest of the house. I am not one of those people who were born knowing how to organize everything, I have succeeded in being organized on occasion but in the last 10 years I feel as though I completely lost that tenuous hold even.

Then a friend sent me to flylady.net, I poked around,(honestly my first thought was how the site seemed awfully busy but I decided to let that ride for a bit) figured it could not hurt to join the yahoo group and check it out. I read the email about shining my sink and it took a couple days and my friend reminding me that baking soda is good for scrubbing and cleaning after all silly for me to shine my sink and browse through the first slew of emails. I read the email Butterflies Beginnings and cried a little because it felt like she wrote that letter to me, how could she know me so well?

So, the shiny sink is my first step toward getting my house and crafting space to a place where I am free to be creative and no longer stifled and lost. I will try to have some craft updates for you soon and I will probably post about my FlyBaby progress too.

More tatting questions!

Sorry.. I'm going to keep asking because it's driving me nuts!

So I've realised that when I close a ring, I pull the cut end rather than the shuttle end of the thread. That's obviously not right, but I can't get it to work the other way, no matter which way I flip my knot. You do a complete double stitch before the end of a ring, don't you?

The next questions is do you have linking threads that you need to cut off if you do a non-edging design?

Sorry I'm asking so many basic questions!
